About Ed Gowen
Ed Gowen has been drawing and painting all his life. As a small boy he began by drawing tractors on the farm, but the artistic seed
inside Ed germinated and opened his mind to the great country landscapes. In his paintings, he manages to establish the effect of
space and has a technique that wields the power to suggest moods. Carving his own niche on the rolling hills of Virginia, some of
his works shine with the brightness of life while others brood with the depth of shadow.
Although essentially self-taught, Ed has
studied under such masters as Kevin Macpherson, Ralph Oberg, Charles Sovek, and Clayton Beck, III. His paintings have been seen from
California to New York City in such prestigious shows as the Salmagundi Club, Salon International, Oil Painters of America (Southeast
Regional), Hilton Head Art League, and the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society. His work hangs in both public and private collections
and has been commended with awards and publications. Such honors have included Best in Show, Second Place, and many numerous Merit
and Special Category awards.
He has had several solo and group shows, including one in New York’s So Ho district at the Agora Gallery.Ed
is currently represented at The Little Gallery at Smith Mountain Lake, VA and at Julie’s Art & Antiques in Altavista, VA., and Artifacts
in Lynchburg,Va.
